Roommates Are Not Snacks [Closed to Peter Parker]

What: Vampire Adopts Teenage Spider Kid
When: April 14th Because he had to think about this for a minute and monsters were needing a good spanking.
Where: Wherever Jace has to go to pick up the kid and then back at the apartment if Peter doesn't change his mind.
Warnings: Possible cursing? Will update as needed.

To be honest, Jace had no idea what he was doing. He'd lived mostly alone since he'd dragged his dead ass out of a grave over 100 years ago. He wasn't like most vampires. He didn't live in a big house or a hotel like one big happy blood sucking family. He'd lived with a Warlock in the beginning. For a short time. He knew Downworlders and had traveled the world, but he preferred being alone.

So realizing he would be sharing an apartment with a human teenager and possibly being responsible for that teenager on some level was a huge thing to consider. Not because he was a vampire. He had very good self control and no interest in hurting anyone. Ever. Unless they deserved it. But he was used to being responsible only for himself.

Unless the kid decided he had no interest in rooming with a vampire. Jace had to be honest with him and give him the choice. He also wasn't sure the kid was still waiting for him to make a decision. Monsters had to be dealt with!

Oh, he did leave it unlocked. Whoops. He glances over at the hotel key he'd been given and resists the urge to just shrug.

He's pretty sure that's not a real concern because what kind of weirdo goes around hotels opening random doors? Although, with Peter's luck that probably would happen to him. Maybe he shouldn't push is luck. He gets out of the chair he's been lounging in and moves a little closer to offer a handshake.

"Nice to meet you, Mr Jace, Sir. And don't worry about it-really. I get it." He offers a small smile.

"Just Jace is fine." There's a small smile at the hand being offered to him, but he doesn't take it right away. "You don't get it, not really, I don't think."

It's not meant to be scolding or lecturing because who the hell is he to lecture anyone, but he knows a lot about scary things in the dark.

"I don't usually introduce myself to strangers by telling them my secrets or being honest with them about anything until I know who they are and if they can be trusted and I've learned in my long life that most people" - and he says the word people with a slight smirk because he means more than just humans - "aren't trustworthy. But if you're going to share a space with me it has to be because you understand what that means and you have to choose it for yourself."

Only then does he offer his hand to the kid, waiting for the reaction to an obviously cooler temperature. "I'm Jace Herondale. I'm a vampire."

Peter frowns, lips thinning as that first part because he absolutely gets the whole 'greater good' aspect of life and he's fine being put on a back burner while other people need help. He can take care of himself. Sorta. Ignore that he's been mostly eating junk all week.

"O-oh." Well. Of all the things Peter had expected that was not one of them. It also puts him on guard, just a little. Why would a vampire want to adopt a child. "I mean-as long you don't use me as your personal juice box-I'm cool with it. My blood is probably like-96% pure caffeine anyway. That or Anxiety and poor decisions. it's a toss up." He bites gently on his tongue because what is even coming out of his mouth?

"Um... I tend to ramble a lot. M-mostly when I'm nervous and I-I have a kinda stutter. Which I'm sure you noticed but you probably need to know that if I'm gonna be living with you-which is fine if you don't wanna-I mean I'm not super jazzed on social workers but I'm sure Shelly could find someone else if you're uncomfortable with things." He tends to get hurt a lot and is that gonna be a problem? There are so many movies and books and stuff that have vampires basically like sharks with the scent of blood.

The rambling is kind of endearing and reminds Jace of happier times with family and friends. It's a very distant memory, but it's still there. The feeling of home so very far away. It makes him feel better about having to tell a kid he's a monster.

Peter takes it better than he expected and it makes Jace think it won't be so bad sharing a space with a kid that could taste more like caffeine than anything potentially healthy. Not that he would taste and find out for himself. He's not that kind of vampire. That's what he keeps telling himself. But he is a vampire and that alone was enough to have the kid running in the direction of the social worker.

Instead, he seems almost....sad...at the thought Jace might not want him.

"I have my own blood supply, caffeine free." Jace teases. "The only thing I'm uncomfortable with is this mess. Try to contain it to your private bedroom if you can." He takes a breath, considering what to say to the kid. Not that breathing is needed, but it's something that makes him feel less dead and more like his old self. "I haven't lived with anyone in a long time. An occasional Warlock, a few vampires, but I spent most of my time traveling and living alone. If you're okay with sharing a place with a vampire then I don't have a problem sharing with a kid who may let his mess spill out of his room from time to time."

Peter's cheeks tint a little red at the mention of the mess he'd made and he glances over at it. It's not that bad, is it? "Uh... yeah, of course. I was gonna clean it." he says automatically, moving to gather everything up and shove it all in a suitcase.

"I'll keep my room clean, promise. I was just bored here-is all." He should probably be more alarmed by the vampire thing but at this point in his life he's seen an alien invasion and he's been bitten by a radioactive Spider. It's really better to just go with the flow.

"Keep your room however you want to keep it. It's going to be your room." Jace isn't looking to control anyone's life decisions. But he is a little concerned that the kid doesn't seemed to be bother by the whole 'I'm a vampire' thing.

Maybe kids from Peter's reality aren't freaked out as easily over monsters.

"So...you're okay with sharing a place with me?" He asks, watching Peter pack his collection of entertainment.
