Food and Film Fest: September 4th to September 7th.
This is it, folks. The moment you've been waiting for, or probably forgot about because of all the unusual nonsense going on. Don't worry; no food trucks or outdoor theaters are affected. In fact, just for this Festival? Things seem to have settled down greatly and will remain settled until September 9th, but more on that later.
But yes, grab a friend (or what have you), grab some food and grab the best spot in the sand, because Beachville's Food and Film Fest has begun! Their arrival happened overnight, set up quick, everyone is cheerful and friendly.
Get some food and film in you! And possibly even try a food challenge!

The Food Trucks:
The Mac Shack will be here for all your customize-able mac and cheese needs. They have several different kinds of cheeses, a few good pasta options and so many various toppings, it's a wonder they fit it all on the truck. Ask nicely and they'll twice bake it for you, topping it off with another handful of cheese before throwing it in the broiler to get it perfect and bubbly.
Pressed not only sells pressed sandwiches of many a variety (there might even be a dessert option or two containing marshmallows, Nutella and strawberries, or a wonderful apple pie version with a flaky biscuit instead of pie dough), but they also sell several kinds of fresh pressed juices including but not limited to:
Apple Juice
Orange Juice
Peach Juice
Watermelon Juice
Mango Juice
Strawberry Juice and a green smoothie or two.
Hole-y Donuts, Batman!
Yep. It's donuts. Fresh made as you watch. Mini-donut batter rings dropping into hot oil, floating along and being flipped by a machine and topped with whatever Saturday morning cereal you want. And if you don't want it coated in fond memories of cartoons and pajamas, you can always get it sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Or drizzled with their strawberry lemonade glaze, or dipped in chocolate and topped with strawberries.
Or plain, we guess. They're good that way, too. And yes, there is coffee. And a variety of soda products. Upsize your soda and you get a Food and Film Fest commemorative Batman cup! We're not really sure what the Dark Knight has to do with donuts, but there it is.
Fire'd Up sells brick-oven pizza on a perfectly crispy-chewy crust. They're all one size, personal size, sadly, but after taking one bite of something that tasty, you might not even want someone to look at your pizza. That's fine. Tell them to get their own, however they want it. Any toppings you can imagine, and then watch them make it, put it in the oven, and then put it in a small box for you within five minutes. Enjoy!
They also have a pizza challenge; ghost-pepper infused pizza sauce, pepperjack cheese and deep-fried habaneros. If you can eat three of these in under ten minutes, you get a t-shirt and $500 bucks. If you don't, your sorry face goes on their Wall of Flames. You have to sign a waver. (Please note, if you want your character to do this, ask mods to roll to see if your character wins the t-shirt and money. There will be one winner total.)
Sundae, Yummy Sundae sells...okay, you guessed it. Sundae's. Any variety. Any toppings you want. Any size you want. They also have milkshakes, floats, frozen chocolate dipped bananas. Waffle cones, sugar cones, pretzel cones, ice cream by the scoop. Ice cream by the gallon! Ice cream by the pint. Fried ice cream. Ice cream sandwiches. It's hot in Beachville. Ice cream is the best solution for this.
For anyone looking for another food challenge, Sundae, Yummy Sundae has the ultimate Banana Boat Sundae food challenge. For two. The prize is $500 to split between the two of you, your picture on their wall of fame and a t-shirt to remember the Food and Film festival by.
Failure gets your face on their Brain Freeze wall.
As stated, this is a two person challenge, so grab your partner and let us know. We'll roll to see how well you did.
This challenge can have three groups of winners.
Twelve scoops of ice cream
Tacos, Tacos, Tacos has some of the best tacos and nachos around. They're made quickly, however you want them. There are strange and unusual options for those that are used to that kind of thing, there are also the usual options to choose from. Expertly marinated, beef, chicken, fish. They even have a fake meat option, for anyone that doesn't care to eat meat. Their salsa is fresh and spicy, their tortillas hand-made and fried on demand for nachos. They have glass bottle sodas and some of the best dulce de leche around.
Place your order and walk away with three tacos of your choice, a side of guacamole, refried beans and seasoned corn. Find somewhere comfortable to sit, because you're going to need to once you've taken that first bite.
Fun in Funnel Cake is just what it says on the tin. Funnel cake, made to order, with several kinds of batters to choose from. They have banana batter, vanilla, chocolate or strawberry and these can be topped with anything from the standard powdered sugar, to cinnamon and sugar or various pie fillings, whipped cream made on premise and always with a cherry on top.
Baked is where you'll find your gourmet cupcakes. There's no run of the mill, basic cupcake here. No, these ones are clearly made with love. From the batter to the buttercream frosting, these cupcakes are pure magic. There's the snickerdoodle cupcake with it's cinnamon and sugar cream cheese frosting and perfectly fluffy cinnamon cake. Or the strawberry lemonade cupcake with a velvetty strawberry buttercream and lemon cake with hints of lemon zest. Their key lime cupcake has a baked meringue topping and the cake is just the right amount of tart lemon flavor.
Whatever kind of gourmet cupcake you can imagine, they probably have.
Poes 'Tatos is where you get your fries, topped with your choice of cheese, and rebaked to perfection. You can also get it topped with bacon, chopped green onions, sour cream or even their homemade chili. Whoever Poe is (and if you ask the current vendor, they'll say Poe retired), they trained their people to make french fries right.
And don't worry, for the adults in the group, there are at least three mobile bars for you to get a drink.

The Beach Theaters:
If you want to, you can take your food with you to the movies, and bluetooth headphones will be provided so you can hear the movie over the noise of the festival. All theaters start running after the sun goes down, and run all night until the sun starts coming up. Admission for the movies is two bucks a person and comes with a single free small bpopcorn per guest.
Screen One will be playing a variety of Disney films. Moana, Brave, The Princess and the Frog, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Up, The Lion King. Enjoy that!
Screen Two will be playing action/adventure films from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the original Star Wars Trilogy both the unedited versions AND the versions edited and re-released to theaters and even The Princess Bride.
Screen Three is Hitchcock films. Mostly. There's the occasional showing of The Blob, the original black and white one from way back when, but that's at the end of each night and, as the person running this particular theater will tell people just before the film starts playing people are expected to run away from the theater, screaming. Just like in the movie. But hold that for the end of the film, okay? Until then, enjoy The Birds, and Psycho. Rear Window is also on the roster, as is Vertigo, Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train.
This is a gathering style post. Post below with where you are and what your characters are doing, comment around. Build CR. Handwave that your character worked, if you want to. And most of all, Party On and Be Excellent To Each Other!

Eugene Sims - OTA
Tacos, Tacos, Tacos had some awesome porkbelly tacos that he got a double order of. He's most certainly stopping at Sundae, Yummy Sundae for a rootbeer float. The pizza at Fire'd Up? That is some perfect pizza. Don't worry. He's not eating all of this in one go. He pauses and wanders and listens to the various small bands playing the festival, all while food digests.
But, he's also a conduit and those bastards need a lot of energy, so he's going to be eating a lot.
At one point, he'll be at the movies. While he works a couple nights here, he's going to be visiting the Hitchcock films and the Adventure Films often when he isn't working. Seated in the back so as to not bother too many people. He's entirely botherable.
[For Tandy]
It kinda sucks that they both worked different projection screens one night, but Eugene has a way around that. And that way involves one of his smaller angels, flitting silently between the different outdoor theaters, always with a pen and notebook.
Yes, he is in fact passing notes. And the first one he sends via lightly glowing fully armored battle angel no bigger than a Barbie doll?
It has a simple question.
What time are you done? I have someone coming in after this showing of Birds, that's about fifteen minutes away.
-Eugene

Reading over the question, she smiles to herself before scribbling in an answer and handing the book back along with the pen.
I'm done in twenty. Are we doing something after?

How does ice cream sound?
Cyrano de Bergerac
Cyrano is nervous--and he hates himself a little for it.
Allison is working during the festival, so before his meeting with her, Cyrano takes in the scenery. He gets himself something to drink at Pressed, but eventually turns to one of the mobile bars for a shot of liquid courage. He's too jittery to have a real appetite, so he doesn't eat--he wanders a bit, people watching, and inevitably finds a place to sit, notebook on his leg for a writing surface, lost in furiously scribbling poetry.
It has become a common thing, this loss of control, spiraling into words and beats and verse. Since he first arrived--since he first met Allison--the muse has come undone.
And everything he sees has become a cause for poetic celebration.
Later In The Evening - closed to Allison
"...all right, I admit it: I enjoyed The Princess Bride."
His tone was grudging, but there was a small smile on his face as they returned to the food trucks to find something to eat before the showing of the next movie. Their plans hadn't worked out quite as they'd hoped, because by the time Allison was free, the movie was about to start and she'd been hell bent to get his eyes on it.
Now, she was insisting Temple of Doom would be just as good while they went looking for dinner to take to the second film.
Truthfully, he felt foolish now for being nervous--she'd been good company during the movie, patient the few times he had to whisper to her with questions, even making a few jokes that had him fighting laughter. He came out of it with his spirits high, ready to have a good time...comfortable.
He even forgot to be worried about the nature of the outing.
"All right," he sighed, rubbing his hands together, "what trough are we gorging ourselves on this eve, hmm?"
Athol Forsyth | OTA
Athol had never been to an event quite like this before, and definitely not when he wasn't working. He had an entirely different kind of work here, and that was all right. The stakes weren't the same, but that was all right, too. He could get used to being a cashier, maybe, except part of him longed for the action and thrills of home. He had a feeling this was going to be a longer vacation than he hoped it would.
But that didn't mean he wasn't going to try to enjoy himself. He stopped by Fire'd Up first, getting himself a pizza, which he enjoyed more than he thought he would. It was delicious and maybe it'd been too long since he'd had anything but cheap pizza on the go. Afterwards, he treated himself to desert in the form of a funnel cake, which he struggled not to make a mess with. He succeeded, for the most part, but he went through a concerning amount of napkins in the process.
b. Movies
Taos was the one with an affection for older movies, but Athol had at least seen The Birds before. It'd just been a while, and he might have been a teenager at the time, which meant he didn't remember most of what happened and was perfectly content to settle in to watch.
He was available to bother all during the Hitchcock movies, even when he started nodding off during one of them.
no subject
Ahem.
Now she was doing her best to convince him about going to a second movie which wasn't all that hard to do considering he had enjoyed the first. And truthfully, so had she. He had been good company all throughout which was a nice change. Just even going to the movies and having a good time without there being an issue was a nice change.
"Mmm, I don't know. I'm thinking pizza or tacos, what do you think?"
no subject
"Tacos, you say? I can't rightfully say I've ever tried one." he admitted, shooting her a sidelong glance as he narrowed his eyes in mock suspicion.
"Can I trust you, mon amie?"
Re: Eugene Sims - OTA
Tony didn't know Eugene, but he was seated beside him one night during a couple of Hitchcock movies. It was a popular showing time so the other seats were taken or he would've given the young man some room. However, during the movie- particularly during the 'scary' parts- he just kept laughing. The movies were so bad! He loved these old things, but they were just so terrible.
He glanced over at the young man and remarked, "Hard to believe these were cutting edge at one point."
Re: Eugene Sims - OTA
"I think my favorite part is in Birds where everyone's running and it's so obvious it's on a sound stage somewhere. I mean, I'm sure back then people were enthralled and wanted to know how they did it, and that's what makes it so cool."
But...still...people did better with a puppet of The Child in The Mandalorian nowadays. He could appreciate the effort.
no subject
"Normally I hate revisiting old technology and techniques like this, but I've been without movies and anything 'normal' for months. This is so nice and.. well, stupid." The stupid word might have been said with some affection.
"You sticking around for the next film? I think it's the Blob."
no subject
That only takes a moment, maybe less. He did take a second or two to create a small, digital battle-ready angel in a suit of armor to help him swap reels and then he's back. One of the angels carries off a notebook while the others disappear and then Eugene sits down again.
"Yeah, the original. The one filmed in Pennsylvania, way back when. My mom and I took a guided tour of the different locations where the film was shot when I was ten."
no subject
"What the hell are those?" He asked, ignoring the guy's comment on the tour. He frowned and eyed the beings suspiciously.
no subject
Make it chocolate and I'm so in.
no subject
"I promise you'll like them." She told him then as they started to walk.

[ he's pretty used to the looks of suspicion, to be honest. People back home were convinced that people like him, people with abilities, were super dangerous and...ate puppies and kittens (Thanks a lot, Reggie, for giving people that bit of misinformation while trying to come off as a Dangerous Conduit so one of his angels could kidnap him, you double-dick).
But for the most part? People like him were pretty harmless. ]
They're my friends. They've been investigating the borders of town for me and have discovered that if they go too far, they end up right back with Jerry. One of them came home with a cup of coffee. Really good coffee. Almost rivaled the coffee in Seattle.
food:
When she spots the funnel cake, she grins.
"Crazy how good that is, huh? I could smell those cooking from the ice cream truck and got one with black cherries all over it. Best decision I ever made."
no subject
"Things are also always better when you haven't had them for a long time." And he hadn't had one of these in years. But now that he was thinking about it, maybe he should have gotten one with black cherries on it, too. "It's been a while since I treated myself."

"I'm Gwen."

"It beats where I was before? But as far as places I've visited in the Multiverse, this might be one of my favorites. Not like...top fave? But close."
no subject
no subject
"Okay, so...easiest way to explain it. There are multiple realities. Like...an infinite amount of them. In each one, there's a version of you. There's the you that you are right now. There's are many, many versions of you that vary to some degree or another. In some part of the multiverse, you could be female. Ooorrrrr...king of the world. Or the worlds worst villain. I've met several versions of the same guy, and the differences ranged from blonde hair instead of brown, to someone my age, to a middle aged and very washed up man who wears sweatpants all the time and has clearly given up."
Somewhere in the multiverse, Peter B Parker is insulted for half a second before nodding his agreement and going yeah. that's accurate.
no subject
"That's wild." He'd be more skeptical if she hadn't literally just said she'd met multiple versions of the same person. "How do you traverse realities? Or meet others from different ones?"
no subject
"The first time," she says, pushing her hair out of her face and then resting her chin in her hand. "The first time, it was because I was sucked into a wormhole someone in another universe created. Myself and several others from different universes. It was kind of bad. Our cells knew they weren't supposed to be in that universe and fought to get home, but since they couldn't, we were all slowly sort of...dying."
Clearly, it didn't happen, if she's here to talk about it.
"We figured out how to get us all back to our own universes, but instead of ending up in my own, I ended up on a train traveling through the void between universes. That place is my least favorite."
no subject
"You're not dying anymore, though?" Without being back in her own universe? He was glad that wasn't happening to everyone here though. At leas, he assumed it wasn't, but he also didn't know how long that sort of thing would take or when the symptoms would start to show up.
The void between universes made him imagine them all like marbles, universes and galaxies all contained within their borders, with vast expanses of nothingness in between. He didn't know how accurate it was, and probably never would, but it helped to have a way to visualize it. It made his head hurt less. "Why was the train your least favorite place?"
no subject
"I was okay with the train at first? We were helping people. Saving the day. But...we had these inspectors come on the train to check our tickets, and they kept saying we all signed on to be there, and that memory loss was a sign of void sickness. But we all appeared on the train platforms, just as confused and unsure of how we got there. So after being told I signed some contract that I don't remember, I started really hating it. Meeting all the great people and all aside."
no subject
Frowning, he considered the rest of what she said. He imagined he would also be upset to be told he'd signed up for something he couldn't remember. Especially something that took him away from his home and the people he cared about. "I don't blame you for being upset about that," he said. "It sounds like an unfair situation to put people in." It was messed up.
no subject
[His expression shifted quickly from suspicion to intrigued.]
What do you mean hardlight?
[He then grinned at the mention of coffee.]
I'd say he got it from Starkbucks. I only serve the best.
no subject
A short time later, they found a place on the sand to sit with their food, as well as some drinks...and yet again, Allison did not lead him astray.
Cyrano decided tacos were his favorite food.
After polishing off his and wondering aloud about going back for more, he soon started staring at her food with a hungry, playful eye as he sipped the beer he'd gotten to go with his food, at Allison's recommendation.
"You goin' te eat that, mon amie?" Cyrano asked with a raised eyebrow, nodding to her cardboard tray--with the tacos she was, quite obviously, still eating.
no subject
He was quick to polish his off while she took more time, chewing thoughtfully when she spied him eyeing one of hers before finally drumming up enough courage to ask if she was going to eat the one he was setting his heart upon.
"Non, prends-le." She murmured, giving a little motion for him to take the taco before taking another bite of her own with a chuckle.
