Arrivals - Beachville pt 2: OTA!

Who: New Arrivals, Jerry Schiff and YOU!!
What: More arrivals show up in Beachville. There are cookies for the people that behave.
Where: The Information Booth which, while at the same place it always is, seems to have changed a tad!
When: Mid-Morning, September 27th.
Warnings: Just mind your CWs. There's probably swearing, too.

It starts off simple enough. There isn't even any warning. No feeling like something's coming. No little instinct in the back of your head or what have you that tells you change is coming. You blink, your setting has changed. It's as simple and as quick as that. From where you stand, you're surrounded by tall palm trees. The ground beneath your feet is green, a well maintained lawn like one would find in a city park. A clean, salty scent only found on untouched, tropical paradises. You can hear the sounds of the beach. People laughing, amusement park rides thundering in the background. And it's actually pretty peaceful. Even the weather is perfect. Just the right amount of Summer heat without being muggy or humid. There are tropical birds singing in the trees around you, and a light breeze in the trees, rustling the leaves. It's pleasant. Until someone clears their throat nearby. And this is when you notice you're not the only person standing there with a confused look on your face. You're part of a crowd, surrounding an information booth with an older gentleman inside, several stone paths leading away from the booth and towards the nearby beach town.

Was that information booth always there? And how long has the man inside been watching you with that look on his face that suggests he's internally sighing at your presence? He seems friendly enough, however, and once all eyes are on him, he begins speaking.

"Can I have your attention please?" he says, voice calm, lightly accented, fairly monotone, but still gets your attention just the same. And certainly 'no nonsense.' "My name is Jerry Schiff and I run the information booth. I have several envelopes with names on them, so if you hear your name, please step forward and claim your money and information."

With that, he runs down the list of names. And what do you know, your name is on that list.

When you approach, you'll be handed a packet containing money, enough to get through the month, and an information pamphlet about Beachville, along with a note from the mayor welcoming you to town and telling you your stipend only lasts so long and there are many employment opportunities in town. There's also a map with an address and a set of keys. This is where you'll live. The last thing he says to you is to check the chest in your living-room, you'll know which one, before he hands the polite people a box of cookies. They smell amazing and the box is warm, like they're very, very fresh. You might even find your favorite cookies in the box. They've won awards and are delicious. Just as an aside, though; for anyone that's rude, no cookies. For anyone that tries to take a box anyway, they'll find the box is empty. Maybe even full of dead leaves and rocks. That's what you get for acting up, apparently.

Rude enough and he'll shut the information booth windows. No amount of knocking and screaming, magic or psychic abilities will get the doors open again. The booth is pretty resistant, as is the man inside.

Once everyone has their information, Jerry will thank everyone for their cooperation, close the booth down and head into town. Try to follow him. After rounding a corner, he'll seem to vanish and no amount of looking will find him again.

It seems as though the only things left to do are either talk to the people around you, or find your new home.

Gladio had taken to exploration. Having found some of his own clothes from home in a trunk in his own home, he'd changed out of the fantasy garb and opted for something a bit more casual to walk around in.

It was as he was walking past someone who called out a cheerful hello and smiled, that Gladio had a strange sense of deja vu. He could have sworn he'd seen that face and heard that voice somewhere else.

He turned, he could almost place it... He just couldn't remember her name, as they'd never been formally introduced. Still he walked a bit closer and called out. "... I've seen you before... right?"

Deja vu must be contagious, because Evie herself felt it when she passed Gladio, head tilting in thought as she lets that feeling wash over her. It was easy to place where she'd seen him, though, as she'd just stepped off the train and onto one of the stone paths around Jerry's information booth.

She's already turning to look at him when he calls out to her, a smile on her face as she does so.

"I believe so," she says in her soft voice, placing her hands on her hips for a moment as she thinks. Just to be sure, before saying anything.

"Were you on that train in the Void?" she asks after just a moment or two.

Gladio waited for her to speak before he gave a slow grin. "Void Warriors Forever, eh?"

He laughed then and stepped forward, hand outstretched. "Don't think I got the chance back then, but hey, names Gladio. You new to this place or...?" Or had she been there long enough she could tell him more about the place. He had questions. Mainly why he was pulled from the Train to be here in the first place.

"I guess so, yeah," Evie replies with a smile. She heads over and extends her hand in greeting, somehow relieved to see a familiar face, even if she didn't know his name until just now.

"Evie Grimhilde. It's good to see you, and a pleasure to meet you, too."

"You were Iggy's friend, right?" He asked as he shook the young woman's hand, the name triggering a memory of his friend mentioning her. He could have been wrong though, there had been so many people on the train and Ignis had a life built before he'd arrived.

"Pleasures mine." Gladio replied smoothly with a warm smile. "So tell me? What do you do around here? Anywhere I should keep in mind? Things we need to kill here?"

"I was, yes. Him and Mr Stark were two of my best friends on that train," Evie replies. Her smile saddens some, a faint twitching of the corners of her mouth and her eyes losing some of the sparkle in them for just a moment.

Gladios question gets an apologetic shrug from her. "I'm not sure. I've only been here a few hours. Honestly, I've been looking for a train station, just in case this is something we have to investigate for the train, but we're on an island. The only modes of transportation I've seen are scooters which you can apparently rent on the FluxPhones for a few hours."

Gladio's expression softened some, seeing the sad look in Evie's eyes and he stepped closer. "If it helps, pretty sure Iggy went home." Unless, of course, he ended up pulled into a different world as they had. Or even this world...

"Is that what those things are?" Gladio... may not have read the leaflet they'd been given. He'd had distractions and had promised himself to check it out later. Maybe that had been a mistake. "I'd hoped this wasn't something Void related, so that's reassuring." Really reassuring.

She'll be fine, Gladio. Give her her moment to be sad, and then she'll be her charming and warm self again, if a bit subdued. Her smile grows again when he says Iggy went back to his own world. "Good. Good, I'm glad. That's a relief."

She hoped he found happiness there. "They are! They're pretty useful, and fitting for a beach town."

The comment about the Void has Evie looking somewhat relieved. "Thank the Fairy Godmother for that. If it was, I feel as though there'd have been some manner of mission briefing. But, there wasn't."

"No briefing, no..." Gladio chuckled. "But I was just starting on a mission before I was brought here. Whatever this place is, it picked me up out of there and brought me here. Can't tell if its a promotion or a demotion, not yet."

After all, the place seemed nice enough. But for all he knew, once night fell the monsters could come out. Maybe there was some impending alien invasion? Some magic gone awry, some ancient evil about to awaken... It was sad that his thoughts immediately went to those thoughts instead of 'hey, it's a lovely sunny day, lets enjoy it!'.

"Do you know if anyone else from the train is here? If so, I think we should all get together. A reunion, or something. At my place." She has her starter castle, after all. It's big enough for a dinner.

"Prompto's here." He could say that at least, though whether she knew who he was or not, Gladio wasn't certain. "... Not sure of anyone else." There could be, but so far he hadn't seen anyone. And that just made him all the more suspicious as to why they would be there in the first place. And a bit worried...

He pushed the worry aside to smile. "I think that'd be a nice idea. I'm game."
