Ronan -

When it’s time to leave to meet Gansey Ronan gives the goats and calf a lecture about behaving, staying by his side, and not talking to strangers. He wouldn’t normally let them leave the property, but they’re still too young to be left alone. Especially Drill Bit. So he brings along the old wooden wagon with extra high sides for safety. Normally he uses it to hall cuttings and wood, various building supplies he would need around the property. Today he’s pulling along three small baby goats. Drill Bit, Kick Ass, and Spitfire. Anvil, the Highland calf, can handle the distance so she just follows along.

She cried when she realized she was being left behind so how could he not bring her along?

Every so often the goats jump out and run around, head butt things or people, make lots of noise, chase the calf, the calf chases them, and when they get tired they get scooped up and put back into the wagon.

They’re very excited to not be separated from Ronan and to be exploring. They can be seen making their way through town to the library.

Gansey -

While Ronan ran to get them some lunch for humans and possibly a snack for their four legged friends, Gansey sat outside the library with the wagon full of goats. Occasionally, one of them slips between the bars to trot off to visit whoever walks by. If any of them ranges too far away, Gansey lets out a whistle and they gambol back to them. All except one. The smallest goat, Drill Bit, always stays near Gansey. Usually her head rests in his lap so that he can scritch her ears. Anvil has better manners than her goat siblings, finding a quiet spot in the shade to watch for Ronan.

If anyone asks about the herd, Gansey will try to answer their questions, but Ronan’s the one with more farm knowledge. If anyone wants to pet a member of the menagerie, all will be happy to have the attention.

It wasn't every day that one ran into goats while doing errands before a work shift. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time he'd seen a goat in person. Maybe when he was very young and his parents had still been alive. They'd used to take family trips, and he was pretty sure at least one of them had been to a farm or a petting zoo.

Still, it'd been a very long time, and the baby goat that had trotted up to nibble his shoelaces looked even smaller than he remembered goats being. Probably because it was, as previously mentioned, a baby.

Crouching down, he held his hand out to the goat--did goats sniff hands, or was that just cats? He wasn't sure. Looking up, he spotted the rest of the animals and Gansey, and offered a polite nod.

"Are all of these yours?" he asked.

It surprised him that his companion wandered off. Looking around, he sighed when he realized that she'd found someone to say hello to... and to graze on. "Drill Bit, leave his shoes alone." His tone was gentle, which was probably why she didn't really listen to his order.

He stood, making sure that Kick Ass - why had he let Ronan name the animals? - and Anvil were safe before trailing after the smallest of their pets. "They are. Mostly they're my friend, Ronan's." Figuratively and literally, but no one but Blue and Adam needed to know that. "He knows more about them than I do." Gansey's travels and research hadn't really covered caring for livestock, but he was learning. "I hope she isn't ruining your shoes."

"I don't mind if she is; shoes can be replaced." Especially if it was just the laces. The experience of being nibbled on by a baby goat, on the other hand? Priceless.

"The real question is, why would anyone name such an adorable creature Drill Bit." Not that it didn't somehow become cute when attached to said adorable creature, but still. "Also, don't worry," he added, with the hint of a smile, "I won't quiz you about goats."

Shoes were replaceable, but he was trying to teach Drill Bit to have better manners. But since the shoes' owner didn't mind, he'd let her investigate the new person as long as the biting didn't become too extreme.

"Thank you for not testing my goat knowledge." Gansey wasn't even certain if they acted like real goats or if they acted like the dream equivalent of a goat. "Ronan likes unique names." Names that amused Gansey no matter how often he pretended to be annoyed by Ronan's choices. They made him feel less like Richard Gansey III and more like the boy who loved living in a warehouse that'd been mostly forgotten by a small town. He pointed at each of the goats in turn. "That's Spitfire. That's Kick Ass." Gansey imagined his mother's look of disapproval over that and smiled. "The calf is Anvil. I thought Anvil fit one of the goats better. I would have given her a softer name if it'd been my choice."

"Well, they certainly do have unique names," Athol agreed, amused. "Anvil doesn't seem like a fitting name for something so fluffy." Marshmallow, maybe, something like that. He'd never named a single living thing in his life though, so he couldn't really judge.

"I'm not sure I'd trust this person to name another human being, though." He was joking, mostly.
