Closed to the Gangsey | Boarding Up The Barns

Who: Ronan Lynch, Richard Gansey, Adam Parrish, Blue Sargent, Drill Bit, Kick Ass, Spitfire, Anvil, and Chainsaw.
What: The boys have been busy boarding up The Barns and getting things ready for the storm to hit, including getting Blue her own sleeping bag.
Where: The Barns, Noah Czerny Drive

Warnings: Cursing. There is a goat named Kick Ass and Ronan has no mouth filter. Cuteness. Will add as needed.

Ronan, Gansey, and Adam spent the last day or so boarding up each of the barns on the property, gathering supplies in case they lose power and the ability to heat food, setting up bedding and food for the goats and Anvil. Chainsaw already has her own special, no furry beasts play zone. They don't own any furniture yet so it's sleeping bags and mattresses on the floor. There are plenty of candles and instead of flashlights Ronan has dreamed up some floating fairy lights and few a glow balls that look like it could be the solar system.

Ronan inhaled, eyes bright and fixed on Adam's mouth where his lips parted and curled into a smile. It was a moment he would be happy to live and die in for all eternity and it never failed to make his heart pound out of rhythm. He knew this feeling very well. He knew it because it was the same whenever Gansey smiled a genuine smile. All warmth and energy. Honest. Sincere. Real.

He was so fucked.

"No games, but I have boards that need sanding."

He wasn't blind to the way Ronan looked at him. He never had been, but he'd never known what to do about it, except look back. He felt like that again now, and it was a huge part of why he felt off balance, restless, uncertain of himself.

Still, he pushed all of that down as best he could, perking up. "Seriously?" He'd gladly throw himself into a new project, anything to work off his restless energy.

Ronan led the way out of the kitchen, up the stairs, and into the hall bathroom. There were jokes and stories about girls having to share a bathroom and the nightmare that came with that, but no one had ever witnessed the terror of three Lynch brothers fighting over a bathroom before. Matthew always won and he never had to throw a punch or elbow someone in the gut.

"I'm re-staining and sealing the floor, but we have to sand it down first." There was a lifetime scuffed and scratched, water stained and worn nearly down to the original grain, like scars. "Here."

He reached into a box by the door and handed Adam a block covered in sandpaper. He took one for himself and started near the tub.

Adam followed quietly, trailing one hand along the stair railing as he went. The Barns felt more like home to him than they had any right to, even now, in an unfamiliar place, while a storm raged outside. Or maybe it was especially now, considering all of those factors.

Taking the sandpaper, he surveyed the floor for a moment before setting to work, putting a comfortable amount of distance between himself and Ronan so they wouldn't get in each other's way. "The floor will look nice redone."

"You want to talk about the floor or what's got you twisted up inside?" Direct. But he knew Adam would talk when Adam wanted to talk. He was just opening the door and letting him know he was listening.

He didn't look at Adam when he asked, just put his effort into sanding while he waited patiently for the answer.

He didn't want to talk about the floor. He wasn't sure he wanted to talk about what was on his mind, either. He didn't want to make anyone feel bad, but he was also deeply confused. "I don't--I just--" he took a deep breath, pausing to scrub a hand over his face.

"When I found out you guys were here, I thought things would be easier," he said quietly. "But now there's all these things I know that you and Gansey don't." So much so, that Gansey had actually accused him of being someone else, someone not Adam. "I have these experiences, and neither of you understand them."

Ronan had hoped he could keep sanding away at the wood, a distraction to keep him grounded while he focused on Adam's words and not his own feelings. But he couldn't and Adam needed him to understand. So he too a deep breath, cursed softly at himself, and turned to sit on his ass, leaned up against the side of the bathtub.

"Isn't that the curse of being from the future. You can't tell the past everything because it alters reality or some shit." He stretched his legs out, crossed at the ankles. "Are you happy? With me?"

It was all kinds of fucked up weird to refer to himself as if he were another person, but wasn't that the reality here? He wasn't the person Adam knew. Not yet.

"I don't know. I don't know how any of this is supposed to work." It wasn't time travel exactly, was it? And if he'd already lived it, did that mean that was what was concrete and going to happen? Did telling anyone from a different point in time what was going to happen change anything? It was the kind of stuff that made his head hurt.

Biting his lip, he stopped sanding for a moment, leaning back to sit on his feet. "Happier than I ever thought I could be," he admitted. "I never thought I deserved love, before." Until Ronan. He wouldn't normally admit something like that, but this was Ronan, and even if he wasn't Adam's boyfriend, Adam still trusted him.

Adam had to know how Ronan felt about his shitty parents, but he'd never say it out loud because the thing about shitty parents is they're still your parents and it wasn't his place to state the obvious. And he wasn't sure it was his place to argue about not deserving love because he hadn't felt deserving for a long time now.

Only recently had that started to change.

"Am I different?" Maybe that was the reason. He'd changed and Adam liked the changes enough to date him. Adam seemed different. Less on edge than he had been recently. "I didn't give you flowers and act like a love sick idiot did I?" Because that would just be embarrassingly stupid.

Adam shrugged. "You're happier," he said after a moment. "Less angry?" But he didn't know if the last one was because of him or just Ronan's natural progression through life. Maybe it had been dropping out of Aglionby that had done him good.

The idea of Ronan giving anyone flowers made him laugh softly. "You kissed me. Then I kissed you, and that was that." He'd always remember their first kiss. Gansey telling him not to break Ronan. Adam deciding in the course of a few hours that he was deeply in love.

"You didn't ask me out or anything." Not with his words, but with that kiss.

Seemed simple enough. And probably how he'd do it if he thought about it. He wondered if he'd kissed Gansey before his life went to shit would Gansey have kissed him back and been happy. Would Gansey kiss him now and be happy? Would Adam? Dreaming The Pig had been a lesson and a relief. Giving it to Gansey had been incredible. Seeing Gansey's face. He hadn't thought about kissing him again until that moment. He hadn't thought about kissing Adam until this moment.

"What about your deal with Cabeswater?"

They were approaching potentially dangerous territory. His deal with Cabeswater was closely tied with what had happened to Gansey, and Adam had already told Gansey he wouldn't spill his secret, no matter how much he still thought Ronan deserved to know. Maybe he could avoid that land mine, though.

"What about it?"

Ronan's eyes narrow slightly, instantly suspicious because Adam's response is the typical response when someone wants to avoid answering a question.

"Are you still the eyes and hands of a magical forest or does Kavinsky suck it dry before we can stop him?" If it's the later Kavinsky is getting his ass handed to him if he can ever figure out how to get them all home again.

"Kavinsky doesn't kill Cabeswater; it's fine after that."

Which wasn't technically a lie, even if he was avoiding the first part of the question. It gave him a little more time to think of how to get around mentioning Gansey in all of this.

"That's a great fucking answer. Vague. Not an out right lie. But I seriously doubt you got into an Ivy League College answering questions with 'it's fine'."

Ronan tipped his head back a bit and reached over to the wall where some of the wall paper was pealing just a bit on the edge. He teased it with his fingernail and then snagged the little bit he could and started ripping it off the wall.

"I'm not lying," Adam said. "Cabeswater survived Kavinsky just fine. It's just been through some complicated things since then."

He wasn't even defensive, just wary. Cabeswater was a complicated subject and he was trying his best to be as uncomplicated as possible. When the two collided...things became difficult for him.

"Are you going to redo the wallpaper, too?"
