AU Ronan - Based off Gansey's AU Background
Gansey's family was killed when he was ten during one of those crazy Gotham villain attempts at taking over the city. This time it was using insects, similar to Gansey's canon death except his parents and his sister, Helen, died. Batman saved Gansey, but only because Gansey managed to get far enough away from the attack that it wasn't as severe for him.
He never blames Batman/Bruce for not saving his family. He knows that it was a miracle that he survived. That can't happen four times in a row even if Batman is in the city.
Bruce knew the Ganseys and knew that Gansey was going to be Traumatized by what happened and no one would understand him or be able to really help. Bruce adopted Gansey, who grew up with his sister (Bruce's daughter) Evie.
Gansey's actually well adjusted considering. He had his panic attacks, his obsessions that keep him steady. He glomped onto Alfred as a sort of father figure too and a mentor (like Malory in the books). He found a balance between Bat Fam and trying to be a normal child/teenager. He trained to become a hero of some sort while also learning the behind the scenes stuff to help the others. He just hasn't decided what role he wants yet. Also, it's Gotham. He's Bruce Wayne's adopted son. He needs to know how to defend himself. When he's in costume, he's the Ghost, a name he chose because he 'died' and came back.
As part of trying to have a normal life, he goes to a private school in Virginia. (It also gives him a chance to get helpful connections to obnoxious, rich future business leaders.) He's the King of the school, on the rowing and swim teams, has friends there but not as close as in TRC coz Secrets. He gets dragged back into the Bat world when the Batman V Superman stuff happens and ends up back in Gotham.
Ronan's father, Niall, lives. Ronan never shaves his head or goes to the dark side of things. He's still a shit and is wild and loves racing, but thanks partly to Gansey he never really falls in with Kavinsky (He leaves town unexpectedly). Ronan does get his tattoo and dream his Raven Chainsaw. He does meet Adam, but never meets Noah. He writes letters to Gansey and they video chat all the time. He knows Evie, but hasn't met Bruce. He still sings, plays the bagpipes, and speaks Gaelic. He's one of the top students at Aglionby and actually attends classes even if he still prefers wearing his tie around his head and gets into all sorts of trouble. He and his brother Declan get along. His father dreams him his very own BMW in black as a 16th birthday present so he has that instead of his fathers BMW.
*Anything I've forgotten will be added in the tags.
RACING - If you like speed, the thrill of possibly being caught by the police, the adrenaline rush of waiting for the light to change, the sound of an engine roaring beneath your feet. Meet him at any intersection and prepare to race! Be warned. His car is special (magical) and his instinct for racing excellent.
SINGING - Karaoke? Amateur night at the bar? Or just a few drinks to enjoy in the late/early hours of the city life? Ronan has been to the big city before, but his heart lives at The Barns in the rolling hills of Virginia countryside. That doesn't mean he doesn't know how to enjoy the city nightlife. If you're lucky he might sing!
ROLL THE DICE - Start a thread and see where things end up. Introduce yourself. Pick a fight. Drinking contest (he is Irish). Good, bad, ugly interactions all welcome.

She was relieved she could have some space from that in Wechester. So she's cutting just a tiny bit loose, really letting herself get into the song she's singing. Owning every word, every note, every beat. When she's done, she smiles a bit at the applause and heads back to the table near Ronan, raising an eyebrow as if to say 'that's all anyone gets.'
"Your turn.'
no subject
"You're sure?" He teases, because he's a competitive singer in his spare time. He picks up his shot of Irish whiskey and tosses it back before heading up to the stage, picks a song, and runs his fingers through his dark curls.
no subject
He had a good voice, the song was great.
Ordering herself a shot of vodka, she knocks it back and watches Ronan on stage with a grin.

Some nights, they'd shut the place down. True rebels.
Tonight the drinks flow freely as ever as Blue carefully makes her way back to the table with a tray full of drinks -- each one filled to the brim and were it not for the seasoned waitress holding it, they likely would have spilled everywhere.
"If everyone is going to keep drinking like this, I'm not getting the next round." Blue eased the tray down onto the table where the rest of her coworkers were, shaking both of her arms out before returning to her seat next to Ronan. "Are you getting up there tonight?" She questioned with a grin, playfully nudging him with her elbow -- she'd clearly already gotten at least one shot in her.
no subject
"Then I'll have to get the next round because I can finish off this tray alone." As a way of proving his point he easily finished his own and considered the question. "Convince me."
no subject
"You haven't gotten up there the last 3 times we've been out. You owe it to us!" Not that Blue was much better, she tried to keep away from the microphone as much as possible, usually needing to be forced into singing by one of their fellow coworkers. "If you do it, I'll do it."
no subject
"This one is for a friend."
For Gansey.
no subject
As the music started up, Blue swayed back and forth to the beat, a wide smile on her face and a bright amber colored beer in her hand. It wasn't a song she was familiar with, but she seemed to enjoy it nonetheless -- and even tried to sing along a few times.
When the song comes to a close, she lifted both her hands over her head and clapped wildly. "Yeah!!"
Racing
His heart had hammered painfully in his chest when he'd seen the driver. Ronan.
After that, there was no question that he was going to earn a lecture from his adopted father. Using more camera information, he found the perfect place to meet Ronan where he knew that Ronan would see him and realize who it was. A lonely stretch of blacktop in an area of the city that he knew Ronan preferred for racing. A hellfire orange Camaro parked alongside the road and Gansey leaning against the trunk, knowing that Ronan would cruise by soon and see the two of them waiting.
Re: Racing
Usually, he'd sit at the intersection and wait for a worthy opponent. Tonight he didn't have to wait. He slammed on the breaks, threw the BMW into reverse, tires screeching again as he stopped again. He'd barely put the car in park before hauling himself out of the window. There was no doubt he'd happily drag Gansey into a hug.
If he were sure this was his Gansey. Adam wasn't the same Adam. Blue wasn't the same Blue.
He certainly looked like his Gansey and Ronan was appreciative of the view, leaning with his arms on top of the BMW.
"Does it run or are you just using it as a prop?"
no subject
Ronan looked mostly the same as he had from their last vid chat. The dark curls that should have been illegal on the Lynch boys and the same promise of danger that Gansey could rarely resist. The look that Gansey never knew how to interpret.
Bruce was going to kill him.
Gansey ran a hand along the glossy paint on the trunk while murmuring a few words in French to the Pig, a promise and entreaty to his beloved car before he answered Ronan's question. "She stopped having tantrums when I returned to Gotham. I think she kept breaking down because she had a crush on Parrish."
no subject
"We can test that theory." He didn't allude to how they could test it, just pulled back enough to hold Gansey head between his hands and gently tapped their foreheads together. "How long have you been here?"
The Pig got a loving pet in greeting.
no subject
The smile turned to a rare, genuine grin as Ronan approached. Part of him still watched, cataloging details, aware as he normally was when he was outside of the few places that were safe, but this was Ronan. Ronan was safe no matter how crazy things became. Everything else... he knew that there'd be no police and Ghost had patrolled the area enough for there to be only a few possible concerns to interrupt them.
Which was why he let Ronan to get near, shared a hug that he'd missed for too long. He relaxed as he allowed Gansey to place his hands close to his face, near his ears, eyes briefly closing at the contact. "A couple months. I didn't realize you were here too until I saw the BMW. How long have you been here?"
no subject
Ronan couldn't stop smiling, eyes bright and clear. He had missed letters and video calls that sometimes saw the sun rise. It was the one and only reason he hadn't slept well since arriving here.
"I haven't seen the Pig around town. Where have you been hiding?" He moved around the Camaro and stuck his head in through the windows, running his fingers over the frame.
no subject
Pushing aside those regrets, he watched his best friend circle his car. It took a moment for Gansey to realize that he was enjoying the view a little too much. Jerking his attention away from Ronan's ass, he slid his hand along a fender, a caress and an invitation. "She's mostly been at Evie's place. The Pig isn't the best mode of transportation in the city." She might not break down like she used to, but stop and go traffic caused the engine to overheat. "And there's barely any parking at the Uni."
Forcing his gaze to remain on Ronan's face, he shrugged. "Where have you been. I've been keeping an eye on the racing scene and haven't seen you."
no subject
"Evie's here?" That surprised him, but to be fair he hadn't really been looking to make new friends. He worked and spent his time at The Barns. "No wonder I couldn't find you. I'm allergic to school and books. And schedules."
Fuck, God, he had missed Gansey more than he'd realized. And now here he was standing right in front of him. A promise of a race in the air between them and a t-shirt he was sure was one size too small. Not that he was complaining. Gansey had always had nice arms. Hands. Shoulders. Pretty much everything was nice.
"Until the beaches had turned into actual streets with real traffic there wasn't a racing scene. Unless you wanted to race crabs. So I've been working. Saving up money to improve The Barns. Fuck! The Barns is here! Sort of. And Adam. But he's not the Adam we knew. He's...different."
no subject
Forcing his attention away from Ronan's proximity, he focused on his friend's question. "Yeah. Evie and Dad are here, but not the rest of the family." He missed them, but he knew that they'd keep an eye on each other. "I'm surprised you didn't know Dad was here. He's been the face of Wechester." But Ronan never really had been interested in the media so he might not have seen Bruce.
Rolling his eyes at the mention of school, he tried not to tense when Ronan mentioned Adam. That had been a subject that he'd been trying to avoid since he'd tracked Ronan down. Adam had been one of his other crushes at school. He'd also been someone he'd thought Ronan would gravitate to after Gansey left. Knowing they were living together had almost stopped him from planning their meeting. "Racing the crabs might have been entertaining." He paused, searching for the right words. Adam was here but not the Adam they knew. "He's not the Adam from Henrietta?"
no subject
Ronan tipped his head a bit, curiously watching Gansey.
"No. He's from Henrietta, but he's...different. Good family. Happier. And...he's a Dreamer. Got his head in the clouds." With that last comment he looked away.
It was a secret he was always toeing the line of with Gansey, but this secret wasn't his to share even if Gansey knew Adam. He could risk everything with Gansey, for Gansey, and he would. But then they both knew something about secrets.
no subject
"A dreamer? Like you?" He'd thought the Lynches were the only ones. Not that he could really research the subject despite the curiosity that demanded it. He knew better than to do anything that might draw attention to Ronan and his family.
He felt a pang of something that might have been jealousy or envy or a half dozen other emotions when Ronan looked away. He'd went through enough records to puzzle out that Ronan and Adam were probably living together even if he hadn't realized the Barns really was the Barns, but he'd hoped that it was platonic. Ronan being unable to look at him caused Gansey to adjust that hypothesis. "I'm glad that Adam has what he deserves." He tried to think of some polite way to ask what he was thinking, then decided against the Gotham version of himself and to be just Gansey. "Are the two of you..." He let his voice trail off, hoping that Ronan would understand what he was trying to ask.
no subject
"Yes! Fuck. Keeping secrets from you is fucking painful." There was one person in the world he wanted to tell everything to and that person was standing right in front of him. he wanted to tell him everything that had happened since they last spoke and he wanted to hear Gansey babble on about whatever was on his mind. He wanted to stay up all night with him.
And then he noticed the look, the change, and took a moment to realize what he was asking.
"No. I like Adam. This Adam is...happier. Which makes me an asshole because I want our Adam to be happy, but it's been nice having someone to talk to about dreaming. He's a friend, Gansey. Nothing more." He was blushing. "In another world, another lifetime, I would date him. But he's not...he's not you."
no subject
Jesus, he had it bad for Ronan. Always had. He'd just been better at hiding it from everyone, including himself.
Which made the first part of Ronan's explanation hurt worse than it should have. Ronan liked Adam. Then he realized that it wasn't liked Adam. The words were the same, but different meaning. Then Ronan confirmed his logic. And the blush... he hadn't known that Ronan Lynch could blush. "He's not me," Gansey repeated slowly. "Does that mean that you'd date me?" That might have been an assumption or a hope. Gansey wasn't sure which.
no subject
He'd told himself it was worth the wait to be sure it was what Gansey wanted. He watched the expression in Gansey's eyes change and flicker. he couldn't wait anymore.
"Yes." It was a simple enough answer. A single word. And it held the weight of an entire heart as if he had taken it from his chest and held it out to Gansey to take or to break.
no subject
Something had always lingered between them. Sharp and bright and frustrating. Heartbreaking when Gansey had needed to go back to Gotham. Heartaching when they'd ended each video chat and Gansey yearned to be back in Henrietta but knowing he was needed at home.
Now they were in the same place with possibilities twined between them, created by words that Gansey had been afraid to say in the past. Words held so much power. So much promise offered in the one simple word Ronan spoke. His fingers twitched with the desire to pull Ronan close, but he knew that he had to offer his own words. Add his power, his will, to the possibility that was so tantalizingly close. "I've wanted to date you almost since we met." Pausing a beat, he realized that the past tense might ruin things. "I still do."
no subject
"Are we really two fucking idiots?" He could feel the heat of Gansey's skin against his face, see all the beautiful colors that were Gansey's eyes. he wanted to kiss him. "Race against me. If you win you can kiss me. If I win I get to kiss you."
no subject
He knew that Ronan could feel his pulse jump, the rhythm feeling too fast beneath his fingers. The feeling of warmth encircling Gansey's wrist, comfortable instead of confining. His breath hitched slightly even as he tried to regain control of his reactions.
Why was it easier to stay calm while dealing with Gotham's masked lunatics than to be close to Ronan Lynch?
His lips twitched, ready to make the type of playboy comment that the media expected as an answer to Ronan's question. Then he let go of that response, knowing this was just the two of them, as close to them not wearing masks as possible while on a public street. "I think we are." He'd never realized, just hoped, that Ronan might be interested. "That doesn't really sound like a contest. No matter who crosses the line first, we both win."
no subject
He wouldn't lie and say the idea of racing Gansey wasn't just as thrilling as getting to kiss him after all these years. But once he started kissing him he knew the world would fall away and nothing else would matter for a very long time.
no subject
Even if Ronan was tempting him with the way he'd moved for just the right angle to kiss and the shivery path of his fingers along Gansey's arm.
"I didn't know." He'd hoped, but nothing more than that. Gansey hadn't allowed himself to consider that Ronan might return his feelings. Not in any way that was more concrete than hope.
Gansey almost gave into temptation, but he forced himself to keep some measure of control. "A race, a kiss, and then...?" He left the question open ended, wanting Ronan to choose what might happen next.
no subject
He opened his eyes, lips curling with a bit of a teasing smile, fingers tracing the sleeve of Gansey's too tight t-shirt. "A race. A kiss." Instead of kissing Gansey, he leaned in closer to his ear and whispered, "And then you say yes to dating me."
no subject
If the situation with Bruce hadn't been so serious, he might resent what had almost been lost. But his family had needed him. He couldn't have stayed with Ronan no matter how much he had wanted to. "I'm not gone now."
Biting his lip as Ronan moved closer but didn't kiss him, he couldn't stop the shiver that ran along his spine when he felt Ronan's breath against his ear. Jesus. His heart was pounding harder than it did when he leapt off buildings or ran the Pig through the quarter mile. "I - " It took a moment to catch his breath. "I'd say yes even if we didn't race."
no subject
"Good. Because when I win this race I am going to kiss you and I am going to ask you to date me. And then..." Ronan licked his lips, held up his keys. "Unless you want to skip the race?"
no subject
Forcing himself to think of things that weren't related to kissing or ways to get Ronan naked, he stared at the keys to the BMW in an attempt to settle his jittering nerves. Then Ronan's words sharpened it attention, causing him to give his best friend a dangerous grin. "When you win this race? You really think your German toy can beat the Pig?" He might have let the race slide if Ronan hasn't issued that challenge. "When I win, I get a kiss. You already know I'll date you so that's a moot point. So afterward we'll have to figure out the 'and then...'"
no subject
Fuck me! He wanted to kiss Gansey now. When his heart was already racing laps around them both and they were about to smell gasoline and hear tires screeching against the asphalt.
"Meet you at the stop light. All you have to do is beat me to the next." Nothing in his entire world of Dreams could prepare him for this moment. To pry himself away from Gansey when he was so fucking close to getting what he'd ached and pined over for so long. He was such a fucking idiot for waiting, but FUCK Gansey was worth waiting for.
He managed it, as painful as it may have been. Pulling himself away, jangling his keys over the hood of the BMW before dropping into the seat. He gripped the steering wheel and inhaled. It wasn't about winning. Either way they both were going to win this race. But he loved to race and he loved to race Gansey and the Pig.
no subject
The reminder of winning caused a faint pang of guilt. He really shouldn't be racing, but one night wouldn't hurt. They wouldn't get caught so he wasn't risking putting any unnecessary attention onto Bruce.
Rolling his eyes at Ronan's bravado, he couldn't quite fight back a smile. They'd never really gotten a chance to race before. They'd never had a chance to goad each other or flirt. Before Ronan could leave, he caught a fistful of his shirt, keeping him close, ignoring the temptation it offered. Tipping his head so they were almost kissing, he forced himself not to do more than just speak. "Do you really think I'm going to lose now that I have what I want in sight?"
Slowly he let go of Ronan's shirt, letting his fingers linger briefly along his side before lowering his hand. "I'll be waiting for you and the second light."
As Ronan moved to the BMW, Gansey trailed his fingers along the side of the Pig as he walked to the driver's side door. He was making a show of it, hinting and suggesting as hand moved along slick paint. Getting into the Pig, he started the Camaro, stroking the dashboard before pulling onto the street. "Tonight we have to fly, mon Γ’me." Even if he lost, he'd still get a kiss, still start something important with Ronan, but he was too competitive not to try to win the prize that Ronan was so graciously offering.
