“The beginning is always today.” - Mary Shelley
WHO: Barbara Gordon and Mayday Parker
WHAT: Tacos and Crime
WHERE: Apartments! Where Tacos Are! Places!
WHEN: Early March
WARNINGS: Potential lady feelings? Oh, and high chance of snark with a medium chance of puns later on.
Well, at least she'd met some...quasi-familiar faces, and interesting people. She hadn't landed in a total dystopian, Blade Runner style hell-hole, either, so that was that. Time to get on with life, before life got on with her, really.
And this May seemed nice. Interesting, too, though she couldn't quite put her finger on why. Still, she steps into the hall, closing her door behind her, with a good feeling about all this. And what can go wrong with tacos, really?
She's dressed in what, for her, is fairly casual. A grey turtleneck sweater, a light blue skirt, to just above the knees and - in deference to the wet, slushy outsides, some thick, waterproof boots. Over that she's thrown a light jacket, earmuffs, and a scarf.
She's also humming to herself. And then she looks over to the next apartment over.
"Oh."

"Oh."

"Couple months, maybe? It's been a lot of late-night burgers and the like, lately. If we get strict on the 'good' part, probably even longer."
no subject
"You poor thing... although burgers are also pretty awesome. But we definitely need to make good tacos a regular thing in your life. I officially declare myself your 'eat tacos' friend," May said with a nod, as if Babs had no real say in the situation. Obviously she did and maybe May was coming on a little strong but she was really desperate for a friend, to be honest.

"Oh no, I'm being dragooned into eating better with actual persons, whatever shall I do?"
She paused.
"Other than enjoy it. Honestly, just...seeing another human being for fun is...kinda nice, these days."
no subject
"Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way," she said with a chuckle. Babs being faux dramatic was pretty funny and she could already tell that they were going to get along great. And how often did that happen for May? Almost never.
"So what is your home like? Is your planet called Earth? How do people get around? Do you have a New York?"

She held the straight face as long as she could.

"I don't think I've heard of Gotham before," May admitted. If it was a big city then that meant they were probably from different worlds. Okay, the teleporters and lizards comment also made it apparent they weren't from the same world. And of course she couldn't act like she'd been to a whole bunch of worlds before which was kinda crappy.
"Teleporters must make things SO MUCH EASIER," May said, a little jealous. "And do you have your own lizard or like... share one with family? How do the riding lizards work?"
no subject
"We don't have any of those things, I was just being dumb. It's just buses and stuff like normal."
no subject
“Ohhhh, oh, maybe I just haven’t talked to filthy liars in a while,” May said with faux outrage before laughing at the joke. She had to hand it to Barbara, that was a pretty good one. In her defense though she’d been to worlds weird enough that sort of thing wasn’t too far from reality.
“Busses and normal stuff sounds more boring but probably a lot safer in the long run.”
no subject
"And aside from the costumed heroes and stuff, yeah. But Gotham's a busy, busy place that way."
no subject
"Oh, that someone is for sure funny. Got me good," May said. Because if you couldn't appreciate and take a joke like that then you were just sad. Besides, she appreciated a quick wit.
"So what heroes do you have then? We have some of those too. Do you have the Fantastic Four or the Avengers?"
May wanted to ask about Spider-People but people would definitely ask about the other two first.

She shrugs. "Do you even have a Gotham?"
no subject
"No but the Justice League sounds pretty cool! Is... is Batman a Bat-Person or like... just someone who is blind and gets around by echolocation?" she asked, because in her mind a person bitten by a bat and given bat-powers seemed more likely.
"And I don't think so. It's a cool name though. Gooothammmm," she said, using her best "spooky" voice.
no subject
"Nobody knows!" she replies, shrugging. "All we know? He fights crime by night!"
She snrked at the latter. "Yeah, it kinda is."
