Alligators in the sewers? Nope. Spiders.
Who: Gwen and Miles Ghost Spider and Arachnid.
What: Gwen is pissed off that the school bullies threw Hawks keys into the sewer, so Ghost Spider and Arachnid are going to find them.
Where: The Sewers near the school
When: 12:15 AM, 04/26
Warnings: Here there be monsters. And mentions of bullying and physical violence. Also some swearing.
With three extra people in the house, it wasn't too easy for Gwen and Miles to sneak out. They had to wait until they were sure everyone was asleep. Everyone. Even their unofficial house mom. And with Gwen crashing in Hawks room the night after every awful thing went down between him and the school bullies, sneaking out had been a tad harder than she expected.
But she managed to get herself out of his room, knock gently on Miles door as a five minute warning, and soon enough, Ghost Spider was dressed and waiting on the roof of their house. Once Miles shows up, Ghost Spider takes off. The houses and trees are close enough to each other that getting from rooftop to rooftop wasn't difficult. They were both really good at being quiet. And even some of the taller buildings in town made this trek easy, which Ghost Spider was grateful for.
Finally, she dropped off of the roof of the maintenance building near school and looks around. Sure enough, she spots the sewer grate, complete with the bloody handprints Hawk told her about and that just angers her, the eyes of her mask narrowing to show as much.
She's not saying what Hawk did was right, and she's not saying two wrongs make a right, but after seeing how badly Hawk had been affected by the actions of Derek and company, and his own, she was pretty mad.
Taking a flashlight out of the backpack she wore, she crouched and sent the light into the sewer, trying to see how far down it went. She could hear water running gently below, so it didn't sound like too far a drop.
Still, wet shoes made for bad sticking, so she wasn't exactly looking forward to going in there.
"It doesn't sound like whatever water's in there is too deep, so hopefully the keys didn't get washed too far away." Not that this would stop her from searching.

He could feel her tense when they found the bloody handprints at the sewer grate, and while he hoped his presence would help calm her a bit he could feel his own anger bubbling just beneath the surface. They'd have to deal with that a bit later though.
As he peered into the sewer along with her, he couldn't help a slight grimace underneath his mask. He volunteered to help, of course, but a trip in the sewers wasn't exactly his idea of a good time.
But he supposed none of this was, really.
"Guess it's too much to hope that they landed off to the side somewhere and out of the water?" he said, hoping a light joke would ease some of the heavy mood.

So far, the street is really quiet. Good.
It doesn't take much to move the sewer grate, either, being careful to not make too much noise and then it's just a matter of climbing in and sticking to the ceiling and walls instead of making a full drop. She moves over to leave room for Miles, reaching up to move the sewer grate back in place before shining the flashlight around very carefully.
It's not actually that dirty in the sewers. Gwen thinks all the snow that melted washed a lot of whatever away, so it shouldn't be too gross to navigate.
"Definitely cleaner than the sewers in New York," Gwen states, looking around some.

Stepping back a bit as she opens the grate, he waits for her to climb through. Then he follows after her, sticking to the ceiling as well, and helps her put the grate back.
Looking around with the help of the light, he nods a little. "Yeah, I'm a bit surprised," he admits. "Considering how much time people spent at home."
(i have more spider-gwen icons i just never uploaded them)
"I mean, that was a lot of snow that melted pretty quickly, from what I hear," Gwen states as she inches her way down the wall, shining the flashlight around, hoping the keys aren't in the water.
There's maybe possibly the faint sound of something moving carefully off in one of the tunnels and Gwen stops what she's doing, listening with a small frown. Was someone else down here? Her first thought, an Unseen that went unnoticed, but that didn't sound like an Unseen.
When the sound doesn't happen again, Gwen drops to a ledge beside the water and crouches, peering into the rivulet flowing by.
"Anything? He has a Cobra Kai keychain on it." Which she describes as she looks around. Black and yellow cobra, bright red lettering, black background. "It's his former dojo back home."
(No worries!)
And he isn't sure why, but he's starting to get a bad feeling being down there. His Spider-Senses aren't going off quite yet, but he feels a little on edge all the same.
Still, he tries to focus on the task at hand as he finally drops down from the ceiling, landing on the opposite side of the rivulet from Gwen, looking around for any glimpse of the keychain she described. "Nothing yet," he replies, still looking around.

That, she heard. That, she didn't like. She stops to listen for a moment, her Spider-Sense getting just a bit louder and then...
"Miles...there." She points some ways behind him. Not at anything bad. Just the keychain in a pile of rotting leaves and twigs and she really hopes that's it.
"Grab them and then let's get out of here. There's something in the tunnels."

"Got it," he said, securing the keys in his belt. "Let's get going."

"Miles!" Gwen shouts, watching to make sure her friend is out of the way.

"Whoa...!" he yells, just managing to hang on as it starts bucking around, trying to throw him off.

So she drops onto it's back and reaches for Miles, ready to jump off of the monster or animal or whatever it is and run to safety. She doesn't want to fight something she doesn't know the first thing about.
"We jump off on three, okay? One...two..." The creature bucks hard at that point and Gwen is thrown off and into the wall. It doesn't knock her out, but it does disorient her long enough that she almost doesn't notice the strange gurgling sound coming from the creature before it spits something greenish in her direction.
She manages to dodge most of it and what does hit eats through parts of her suit pretty quick. She is absolutely going to feel that in the morning. For now, it's just time to get Miles and get away.

"Gwen!" He doesn't have much more time to react, though, as the creature continues to thrash wildly about, and while trying to throw him off ends up crushing him between its body and the ceiling. Then he falls to the ground with a groan, still conscious but vulnerable as he tried to catch his breath, struggling to push himself back up.

Her first attempt to get him is stopped when the spider-whatever smacks her back into the wall with one of it's front legs. But, the good thing there? It is now paying attention to Gwen and while Gwen is sure she's going to be discovering new shades of purple on her skin for a couple days after this, she's still going to use this to her advantage.
A piece of broken rebar catches her eye and she webs it over to herself, holding tight to the piece of metal as the creature looks from her to Miles and back again. It growls and Gwens eyes narrow as she takes a moment to grip the bar like a baseball bat.
"C'mon," she mutters to herself, crouched slightly and eyes laser focused on the sewer creature. Smacking the wall with the metal pole in her hand has the effect she'd hoped for and, with another one of it's screeching roars, it charges at Gwen. How it's fitting into the tunnels of the sewer is anyone's guess, but Gwen doesn't see size or threat. She sees her best friend hurt, so when the creature charges her, she charges right back. The creature lunges upward and Gwen drops, sliding underneath and past it and running to Miles. She takes the opportunity to swipe at one of it's legs, knocking it off balance some and giving her the chance to get to her friend. Dropping the metal bar to the ground, she hurries over to Miles.
"Get up, Miles. We have to ---" But then Gwen stops, and listens. It's just...quiet in the sewers. Far too quiet. Turning to look to the monster, she notes it's gone. Just vanished entirely. The tunnel it was in had no other exits except the one Gwen came out of, and there's really nowhere else for it to go. So now Gwen's just hurt. Bleeding. Bruised. Burned from whatever that green ick was that it spat at her.
And it was just Miles and Gwen in the tunnel.
"Where...?" Turning to look at Miles, even her mask can't hide how truly baffled she is by this.

Still in the middle of pushing himself off the ground, he looks at Gwen. "Okay...I didn't hit my head that hard, right? It's just gone?"

Straightening, Jess looks down the sewer, scanning the tunnel until she spies two forms nearby, and frowns. She had heard the fighting that led her to the opening where she had jumped down but she doesn't see the reason for the fight. Just the aftermath.
Moving closer, she sighs internally as she wonders if everyone has a costume but her. Not that it really matters as she looks them over, taking stock of the damage. "Can you move? We need to get out of here."
Just in case whatever had happened to them, had attacked them, decided to come back.

She turns to look at Jess with the eyes of her mask wide in alarm. This wasn't at all what she was expecting. She was just thinking this night couldn't get any weirder and then...
Well, now her 'dumbass teen getting caught doing dumbass things' senses are going off.
"It's gone," she says after a pause, still listening for the thing. "Gone gone. It just vanished." At this point, Gwen points to the end of the tunnel she last saw the thing in. There's no exits. No holes it could have barreled through. Just water and dead leaves and bits of garbage.

He groans a bit, though whether it's from his body protesting as he pushes himself to his feet or from them getting caught, it's hard to say.
"Y-Yeah, I think I'm okay," he replies, though he has to lean against the tunnel wall for a moment. "Whatever that thing was though, it was made like a tank."
no subject
Because it certainly sounded like she could if she needed to.
