Arrivals - Beachville - OPEN LOG

Who: You and Jerry, the info booth guy!
What: Arrivals! Information! Money! New Homes!
Where: What's commonly referred to as the Information Hub.
When: August 15th, Mid Afternoon.
Synopsis: New faces arrive in Beachville. Jerry is a helper! Probably! Most likely, he isn't. At least, not as well as people wish. He can only tell people so much, see. But there are cookies, if you aren't a jerk.

It starts off simple enough. There isn't even any warning. No feeling like something's coming. No little instinct in the back of your head or what have you that tells you change is coming. You blink, your setting has changed. It's as simple and as quick as that. From where you stand, you're surrounded by tall palm trees. The ground beneath your feet is a mix of dirt and sand and you can smell the ocean. A clean, salty scent only found on untouched, tropical paradises. You can hear the sounds of the beach. People laughing, amusement park rides thundering in the background. And it's actually pretty peaceful. Even the weather is perfect. Just the right amount of Summer heat without being muggy or humid. There are tropical birds singing in the trees around you, and a light breeze in the trees, rustling the leaves. It's pleasant. Until someone clears their throat nearby. And this is when you notice you're not the only person standing there with a confused look on your face. You're part of a crowd, surrounding an information booth with an older gentleman inside.

Was that information booth always there? And how long has the man inside been watching you with that look on his face that suggests he's internally sighing at your presence? He seems friendly enough, however, and once all eyes are on him, he begins speaking.

"Can I have your attention please?" he says, voice calm, lightly accented. And certainly 'no nonsense.' "My name is Jerry Schiff and I run the information booth. I have several envelopes with names on them, so if you hear your name, please step forward and claim your money and information."

With that, he runs down the list of names. And what do you know, your name is on that list.

When you approach, you'll be handed a packet containing money, enough to get through the month, and an information pamphlet about Beachville, along with a note from the mayor welcoming you to town and telling you your stipend only lasts so long and there are many employment opportunities in town. There's also a map with an address and a set of keys. This is where you'll live. The last thing he says to you is to check the chest in your living-room, you'll know which one, before he hands the polite people a box of cookies. They smell amazing and the box is warm, like they're very, very fresh. You might even find your favorite cookies in the box. They've won awards and are delicious. Just as an aside, though; for anyone that's rude, no cookies. For anyone that tries to take a box anyway, they'll find the box is empty. Maybe even full of dead leaves and rocks. That's what you get for acting up, apparently.

Rude enough and he'll shut the information booth windows. No amount of knocking and screaming, magic or psychic abilities will get the doors open again. The booth is pretty resistant, as is the man inside.

Once everyone has their information, Jerry will thank everyone for their cooperation, close the booth down and head into town. Try to follow him. After rounding a corner, he'll seem to vanish and no amount of looking will find him again.

It seems as though the only things left to do are either talk to the people around you, or find your new home.

Gwen Stacy: Voidtreck CRAU - OTA

Finding herself back in the school uniform she wore back in Miles universe was oddly comforting, as were the blue ballet slippers on her feet. It meant she wasn't on the train. But, seconds after that thought, she's aware she's not only not on the train, but she's nowhere near Peter. Before she can panic about that too much, the voice speaking has her attention.

Seriously, that guy wasn't there before, and she was pretty good at knowing where people were. Her hearing was insane, so the fact that she missed him had her really unnerved. So much so that she probably looked just as shocked as the rest of the people around her.

Which...also has her surprised. Her abilities were working just fine, so why hadn't she noticed the people before? A lot of them look just as shocked as she does. None of them look familiar just yet. Both of these she has problems with.

When her name is called, she heads up to the booth and looks at Jerry with some unease. There's a smile on her face, sure, but that's to be polite.

When he's done talking, she asks him a question.

"By any chance, Jerry...Mr Schiff...what should I call you?"

Her question is met with a semi-stony stare. And that's about it. It's uncomfortable, but Gwen presses on anyway.

"By any chance, Mr Schiff...you wouldn't happen to know if a train passed through here, do you?"

She's expecting the same look from before, but he just shakes his head and apologizes and states that Beachville has no train-yard, therefore a train couldn't have gone through town. And then he's on to the next name before Gwen can say anything else.

With her stuff in her hands, and a box of cookies that smell a lot like white chocolate macadamia, Gwen steps back and lets the next person go. Not like she really has no choice. She sighs and turns, shaking her head and muttering 'good talk, dude. thanks!' as she heads somewhere out of the way to look at her map and figure out what to do next.

Alice Liddell | OU | OTA

Arrival:

Alice blinked when she went from shaking the Red Queen and checkmating her, to well, just holding a red queen chess piece and a white queen chess piece.

However did that happen? She looked all around and was about to wander over to the beach, idly putting the chess pieces in her pinafore pocket before Jerry called everyone to attention.

And then her name was called and she was given an envelope. Curiosity got the better of her and she opened it up, her eyes widening at the sight of so much money!

"Goodness!" And then she's handed a box of cookies. Which is splendid because her stomach is growling and she's been starving since the beginning of the banquet.

She took a cookie and bit in, making a sound of content as she looked all about.

"You're all just people," she mumbled softly to herself. "No one looks like they're from the Looking Glass... Are we not there anymore?"

But there was something a bit more pressing to find out.

"Excuse me, do you know what sort of occupation do you think I might be able to get?"
madcuriosity: (Oh what is this?)

YAY!

[personal profile] madcuriosity 2020-08-15 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh! Ah, Mr. Schiff!" she smiled and offered a bop of a curtsy. "You may call me Alice, if you like, sir. And the cookies are splendid! I adore chocolate chip!" she held up the box to him. "Would you like one?"
madcuriosity: (This sounds like so much fun!)

[personal profile] madcuriosity 2020-08-15 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah! Then, did you make these? The cookies, I mean?"

"For that precise reason, we should delay any more inane que-.. uh.." Tony blinked and looked around him. The members of the council had been replaced by seagulls and sun bathers. He stood in a sharp three piece business suit, red tie, and polished black shoes, which wasn't at all the right attire for a day at the beach.

"What the.." He murmured in disbelief.

Was he having a stroke? Had he managed somehow to have a complete break from reality? Hearing the man in the booth talk did little to make him feel less like he was hallucinating, but glancing around at the others did. Gwen? Peter? May! Wherever he was he was relieved to see them.

He took his items from Jerry curiously, but was more interested in checking on his friends before grilling the fellow for information. For whatever reason, that ended up with him getting a box of cookies handed to him.

White chocolate macadamia cookies. The sight almost brought him to his knees. Where the hell was he?

"You're a splendid baker, Mr. Schiff! You could easily be a baker for royalty!" and she would know!

She tapped her lips in thought about her favorite.

"I think... I like gingersnaps! Or toffee! Or oh! Oatmeal raisin! All cookies are good cookies! Except if there are nuts!" her nose scrunched up. "I don't like nuts in my cookies. Whatever is your favorite cookie?"
madcuriosity: (Please say yes!)

[personal profile] madcuriosity 2020-08-15 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Alice let out a soft gasp as she was given two cookie boxes and held them close, like they were precious treasure, and to a seven-year-old, they were.

"I can have two? Really?" she whispered.

Tony's attention shifted to the familiar little girl nearby. It was a surprise to see her in something other than orange, but it was a very cute dress anyway.

He approached her and put a hand gently on her back. "Alice, are you alright? Where have we found ourselves?" Wherever this was, he hoped she'd know he was going to take care of her.

Anne Forsythe

[personal profile] adreamtorise 2020-08-15 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
One minute she was in the studio, hands in her hair and back arched...

Then she wasn’t.

Blinking, Anne surveyed the landscape, stiletto heels sinking into the softer patches of dirt enough to make her wobble dangerously. With a quiet little squeak, she stepped out of them and stooped to pick them up. Letting them dangle from one hand, she tried to peer through the throng of people...

Two things happened as the man at the booth started speaking. First, she felt that familiar bloom of instinct in the pit of her stomach, the immediate and sudden knowledge of what was about to happen.

Second, she remembered not that she was naked, but that other people would find that upsetting.

Her free hand drifted up to the shoulder of the person passing in front of her. Without hesitation, she crowded them from behind, pressing close to use them as a human shield.

“Sorry—small case of nudity, and I don’t want to get arrested. Could I just hide here while we scoot up to get the stuff that nice man is talking about? Thank you, I so appreciate this...”

It took a moment to recover from seeing the cookies, but then he went after the girl he'd grown to care about only to disappear! (Which was totally her fault and not the train's).

"Hey, Blondie! Get back here." She's getting a hug whether she wants it or not (okay, so not really, if she doesn't want it). Either way, have a dad/ bear hug.

Athol Forsyth | Original | OTA

[personal profile] rottedking 2020-08-15 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
i. Arrival

He'd been on his way to bed when it happened, slightly buzzed, definitely not dressed for tropical weather. Instead, he wore dark jeans, boots, and a long sleeved cream colored shirt. For a long moment, everything felt especially surreal, like he'd fallen asleep and started dreaming, but he knew that couldn't be true. He wasn't that drunk, and he hadn't even made it to his room yet.

Blinking a few times to adjust his eyes to the sudden brightness from the sun, Athol looked around. None of the faces near him looked familiar, which potentially meant he'd been the only one who'd been taken to...wherever this was. He didn't know if that was a comfort or if it just worried him more. Were the others safe, or were they scattered across this place, in some sort of danger?

Looking up when his name was called, he stepped forward to receive his information, holding himself back from demanding answers no matter how much he wanted to. Whoever was in charge here knew who he was. Did they know everything about him or just his name? Either option didn't do much to make him feel any better. If they knew everything about him, then everyone he cared about could be in danger. Only knowing his name was slightly less troubling, but could still mean danger was looming.

Still, he accepted the things he was given graciously, saying thank you, and then stepped aside with his things and a box of chocolate chip cookies. He did his best to juggle everything so he could leaf through the envelope and then the information without dropping either the cookies or the keys. Or scattering money everywhere.

"This is the strangest kidnapping I've ever heard of," he said to no one in particular. It had to be a kidnapping, because how else could they have suddenly ended up here, without warning?

ii. Later

After he'd visited his new residence and stashed the information he'd been given--and most of the money--he rifled through the chest he'd been told about. He set the framed photo of himself and his brother, which he'd previously kept on his dresser, on the nightstand next to the bed. The blanket he draped across the foot of the bed, and the gun he put in the drawer of the nightstand.

With his necklace tucked under his shirt, he headed back out to see if he could gather any information. The sun hadn't yet started to set, but it would be soon enough. He hadn't bothered to change clothes yet, but he'd at least rolled up his sleeves so he was a little less hot.

For all intents and purposes, this seemed like a normal town. Nothing immediately jumped out at him as being a threat, but that didn't mean threats didn't exist. He was always on guard, despite appearing relatively calm and relaxed. He didn't like anything about this, no matter how nice everything looked.

She looked up at the gentleman, and then looked all around them.

"We're at a beach, sir." She tilted her head. "A very pretty beach, certainly the prettiest beach I've ever been to," she looked back to him. "But I think that's all it's called. Just... the beach. Which is a very fitting title. It would be much stranger if it were called The Mountains when it most certainly isn't that... unless it were to trick someone, that could be clever, I suppose."

That's absolutely a voice she recognizes, Blondie herself turning towards the voice with a cookie in her mouth. There's a noise of frustration at the cookie, Gwen dropping it back into her mouth and swallowing the bite before shouting back.

"Mr. Stark!" And yes, she is in fact running over at full tilt for the hug. Don't worry, she's holding back her spider-strength. It really wouldn't do to knock her father-in-law over, would it? Even if she is ridiculously excited (and actually showing it!)

Peter Parker | MCU CRAU - OTA

[personal profile] hashtagparkerluck 2020-08-15 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Peter was spending his afternoon how he usually did these days-lounging in hammock in the dressing car playing on his DS. Admittedly he was pretty enthralled in his game-someone wants to battle and Peter is so-

"Wagh!" He let out a cry of alarm as he suddenly found himself better acquainted with the floor-or ground. As he realizes quickly that he's sitting in sand. Not only that, but he's Jeans and a t-shirt again-his shirt that reads 'Lettuce, the taste of sadness.' What happened? He knew he was a little too into his game but he didn't think was was 'don't even notice a sudden change in scenery and plot' into it.

Tony was snapped out of his emotional turmoil when he was abruptly being crowded from behind. If he'd seen the woman before this happened, he would've been entirely too pleased with it, but as it was he was just surprised.

"What?" He asked, turning to see who the culprit was. He only caught the quickest glimpse before he understood. Slipping his suit jacket off, he opened it to her to put on. The fabric of the jacket is incredibly soft and light, unlike any other. "I can do better than that. Here, put this on. Although, it seems almost sacrilegious to cover such a gorgeous figure up."

For Gwen, she just saw her boyfriend an hour ago. She was skipping breakfast on Arrivals day because she just wasn't in the mood to eat. And had grabbed a shower once she had the chance to. But the second she stepped out of their sleeping cabin door, she found herself here.

So it really had been an hour since she saw Peter, but it felt like forever once she found herself here. She'd been terrified she wasn't going to see him again.

But her Go Here sense told her where to be and she arrived just in time to see him fall. She'd golf-clap, but her hands are full. So she sticks with just her usual brand of loving sass.

"I might have to take points off for that landing. It's like you didn't even try," she says, hoping he realizes what she's really saying is 'hi, i love you, flaws and all'.

Eugene Sims had three seconds where he thought he'd put himself into the wrong video game, only to realize he didn't have one that was all beaches and confused strangers. And nothing in his games smelled quite as real. Oh, sure, the lava and fire in Heavens Hellfire had a certain almost-painful quality to it, and he was sure he could smell the heat of it.

But this sand felt really, really real. Not like the static electricity-feel of objects in a game. So he was pretty damn confused until he heard the guy speak.

"Yeah," he says, nodding his agreement. "Yeah, it really is. The last time some stranger knew my name, I ended up mentally shut down in a concrete prison."

It's a long story. A very long story.

"There were no cookies at all involved, or a place to live. And absolutely no beach, even if we were in the middle of the ocean."

Tony laughed. He loved her simplicity. True, sometimes it flabbergasted him, like that thing with the whales and greeting food to be polite, but he still loved it. It was very 'her'.

"It would. I'd suspect they were trying to be ironic." He looked about and then back at her.

There was something a little off about how she was looking at him. There wasn't that warm, familiar smile he'd grown accustomed to whenever she saw him. "Alice..? Do you know who I am?"

[personal profile] mayday_parker 2020-08-15 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
This was probably the most gentle way that May had ever been pulled into another dimension. Just one moment she was at home and the next moment she was here. There was even a nice little explanation about what was going on and despite the fact that she was so not okay with the permanent sounding nature of her situation she figured she would be able to find a way home sooner or later. Eventually someone with a big brain (or a little brain but with tech stolen from a big brain) would end up here and she'd be able to get home.

After a brief bit of confusion about her name that she didn't entirely understand May was all set. She had some information, apparently a place to live, and no catastrophic event going on that she needed to deal with.

"You know, every kidnapping into another dimension should come with cookies," she said through half a mouthful of the baked treats. They were the best chocolate chip cookies she'd ever had and she was kind of a connoisseur. "This dimension gets the May Parker seal of approval."

Peter rubs his backside as that landing did suck but then he freezes as that voice registers. Gwen? It'd been at least a month since he'd last seen her so he's having a bit of a moment before he just springs into action and moves over to give her a tight hug and happy kiss.

"Oh my god! Where have you been? You left the train and it was awful but now you're here? Where is here? I mean-I'm not complaining 'cause-" He stops as he hears his name called and looks up- "Uh... Present?" He answers before collecting the things handed to him and then offering a very confused 'thank you' to Jerry and then turns his attention back to Gwen.

"I can't believe you left! I thought I wasn't gonna see you again, you know? And then May left and Mr Stark had heart attack from too much stress and it's just been. Not good. Since you left."

Gwen is used to Peter's word-vomit. It's what he does. And she's good about listening to it, because sometimes that's just what Peter needs; someone to listen while he gets everything he wants to say out.

But what he's saying has, for once, actually caused Gwen some confusion and concern. She watches him carefully while he's speaking, the words hitting her ears but not registering, and she almost interrupts him a couple times but he's just talking and talking and Gwen is becoming more and more confused.

"I left? When did that happen? I was just on the train like...an hour ago. And May left? And Mr...what?" She's so lost, Peter. So. Lost.
